A MENCK MHU 500T has been used to install the foundation piles for the Marica jacket in the Mediterranean Sea. The hammer drove 4 x 82m long piles in 65m water depth. An innovative new adapter plate was used for the installation. The plate adapted the pile diameter of 84" to the 72" anvil provided with the hammer. The design of the plate is based on MENCK's EP1598481 Patent which has been granted in January 2006. The new concept allows fabricating an adapter plate without ventilation holes which leads to a slim design reducing the weight of the plate, the delivery time and the cost without introducing the need to have ventilation holes in the pile. The new ventilation concept further increases the hammer efficiency in underwater applications.
