Walney Extension

As with last year, MENCK’s hydraulic giants have left footprints in the Irish Sea, once more proving that we are an expert and reliable partner on complex offshore wind farm projects. Two of our fleet’s largest hammers were deployed on Van Oord’s AEOLUS and SVANEN vessels to install 87 monopile foundations with outer diameters of 5.7 m and 6.2 m for the Walney Extension wind farm, located about 31 kilometers southwest of the Isle of Man. Even sophisticated requirements like changing pile diameters on the fly, and underwater piling proved to be no challenge for our team and equipment, so that within less than four months, all foundations were successfully installed. The completion of the Extension resulted into the world’s largest offshore windfarm with 207 turbines, supplying nearly 600.000 UK homes with 660MW of green energy.
